Which language should I learn, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese?
I'm an American who only knows English. Seeing as American seems to be losing it's standing in the world I was thinking it would be a good time to start learning a new language. China seems to be the likely new economic super power but it seems that there will be more Spanish speaking people in America.

Spanish, unless you’re planning on moving to China. Actually Chinese is the third most widely spoken language in the US. If it interests you then by all means do it, but Mandarin is very difficult, it’s tonal, and they don’t use the roman alphabet. It can be very difficult to overcome these things. Spanish would be much easier to learn.
If you have to live in America all your life, the better choice is Spanish, though Chinese is the more spoken language worldwide. But you have to decide according to the place you live in. So the obvious choice is Spanish. That’s my suggestion. Hope it helps.
Spanish since it is the second most popular language in the US, but if you want to travel to Asia or work in business, Chinese
You could always learn both
I would like to say Chinese mandarin because I already know spanish.
