Where is a good spanish speaking country to study abroad in?
I recently changed my major to Spanish and my teacher said that if I studied abroad for a semester it was greatly improve my understanding of the language. However, I don't know where to study abroad. What's most important is that I go somewhere where my language can improve the most. Any suggestions?
Is there any other places besides Spain?

Don’t go to Spain! They use lot of gramatic that isn’t used in anywhere else, just there! Like "vosotros", they are the only spanish-speaking country that use such words and it will be difficul and unnecessary to learn them.
I will suggest Peru, Ecuador or Colombia, they speak really clear and slow, it’s easy to understand and they’re known as the best spanish.
Argentina should also be a good possibility, but they have also their particular way of speaking.
They countries you really shouldn’t go to: Mexico (They have a really ugly slang), Chile (People speak fast and not clear, and also lot of slang) and Spain, as said before.
And finally, like others said, you should go for one year, one semester is not enough, you will see!
Spain!!!
MEXICO! You need to make sure that you pick a country where you will greatly depend on your Spanish, and therefore you are forced to speak it. I have so many friends who studied abroad in Spain and they did not improve their Spanish much. There are so many people who speak so many other languages that you find yourself in your comfort zone. Also, I had a friend who went to Costa Rica and LOVED it. There are so many beautiful countries all throughout C. and S. America. Don’t miss out!
(By the way, I suggest Mexico because I LOVE it. I love the people, culture, history…It truly is beautiful. )
Your teacher is wrong. The best length of time to study abroad is a school year. One semester, you’ll come back and lose all the ground you have gained in very little time.
Trust me on this…you need to do a full year.
And, Spain, duh! Best country to learn Spanish.
I don’t know where Alyssa’s friends went, but the people in Spain don’t speak a lick of English (for most areas) and you will be forced to use your Spanish, and you will learn the purest Spanish.
In fact, there are mainly three different Spanish languages in the world (like English language: British English, American English, Australian English, etc.).
You can see this map and you can understand what I’m trying to tell you.

The key is in the use of the second person in singular and plural.
