What's a good spanish speaking country to study abroad at?
I'm a high school student and I want to do a foreign exchange program with a Spanish speaking country. I think I might only do the summerexchange program because my parents want me to do that more. I need help with thinking of a good place to go

Going on exchange is an amazing experience! I envy anyone who gets to do it. It’s very difficult to recommend a country to which to go. That is an incredibly personal decision based on your interests and other considerations. Below is a link to get contact info for students who have gone on exchange with YFU (more on that in a bit). You could email them to ask about their experiences. Also talk to your teachers and do some research about specific countries. Wish I could help you more with that one!
You don’t mention if you have chosen an agency with whom to travel. If you have, please ignore the rest of this answer (except for the very last paragraph). If not, please continue reading.
If I may, I would like to cast a vote for going with Youth For Understanding (YFU). I am a 5-time host mom and volunteer with YFU. When I have asked exchange students why they chose YFU, I get the following answers: (1) YFU gave them more bang for their buck and/or (2) someone they knew and trusted recommended YFU. 95% of the fees collected by YFU go for direct program costs (airline tickets, support in hosting country, etc.). YFU has been around for 59 years and has learned how to make exchanges successful.
Which ever program you choose, make sure they are listed with the Council for Standards on International Educational Travel (csiet.org). They routinely audit programs for quality.
This year, YFU has summer programs to 26 countries, most of which do not require previous language study. If I may, I would recommend going for longer than a summer. It seems to me that, with summer programs, you just barely get the hang of things and then you have to leave. But that’s just a suggestion – you’ll have to decide what works best for your situation and naturally what your parents desire. YFU has summer programs to Argentina, Ecuador, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela. (Personally, I think going to Ecuador would be particularly interesting, but that’s just me.)
Good luck to you no matter what you choose! Feel free to email me.
I also want to study abroad during the summer and it is a tough decision theres so many places to visit but here are some places that would be good:
spain
puerto rico
dominican republic
argentina
columbia
ecuador
el salvador
peru
nicaragua
honduras
mexico
panama
costa rica
guatemala
cuba
venezuela
paraguay
uruguay
chile
bolivia
i hope this helps.
Theres one in Spain as well as 1 in cuzco, peru that I thought might be interesting. Google study abroad and i’m sure you’ll find it.
For a summer program this one I was so fortunate to participate with is the number 1. Spain is a wonderful choice and the program http://www.beautifulspain.com, one of the best if not the best of the programs offered abroad world wide. Location is a safe and most amazingly beautiful beach resort in Northern Spain.
Host families are extremely well screened and very loving. This program gets returnees year after year, so great it is.
Cost is really reasonable considering everything included (as long as you sign up with this program through their web site as there are organizations that sell the same program for much more so high quality it is).
This program is considered the most complete exposure to a foreign country because as they say it is true that it combines CLASSES (art, debate, street talk, folklore, among others) with FUN and EXCITING ACTIVITIES such as Latin Dance Classes, Bullfight, Boat Excursion, etc…, FULL DAY OUTINGS to places of historical and cultural interest such as prehistoric Altamira Caves, Guggenheim Museum, Roman Ruins, "Capricho de Gaudi", Roman Route Hiking adventure, etc… are also ALL INCLUDED IN THE PRICE while living with a local, loving and carefully selected HOST FAMILY. I know this program allows you to choose from several host families (the type of things this program does, no other program would ever) in order for everyone to be happy.
It offers you the possibility of enrolling with a friend with whom to share same host family home, or for you to stay alone at host family. Many host families count on children of your same age.
