Learn to Speak and Understand Spanish
I'm going to Puerto Rico in august and I want to learn spanish, so I have decided to buy the rosetta stone spanish cd pack but they have two different packs. There is Spanish(Spain) and Spanish(Latin American) Which one should i get? Latin America right?

Spanish is Spanish is Spanish; it is true that there are small differences in vocabulary and accent between the various regions but Spanish speakers everywhere understand each other without any trouble. You would logically select the Latin American pack if you are going to Puerto Rico, but you should also be aware that the different areas of Latin America speak varieties of Spanish that differ just as much from each other than they do from the Spanish spoken in Spain.
By the way, I must take issue with Joshua trotting out the old idiotic fairy tail about the Spanish lisping because on e of their kings did. This is utter bulls***; if one of their kings lisped, how come he didn’t lisp his s’s, only his c’s and z’s?
The Spanish speak the way they do because of the combined influences of Arabic and pre-Roman indigenous languages; however, the further South you go in Spain, the less these influences are heard and it is far more likely that South Americans speak the way they do because Latin America was largely colonised by people from Andalucia and other regions of the South of Spain – people, I should say, who were regarded by many other Spanish people as "uneducated peasants". In this, there is a parallel with the English of the USA, which was colonised by people from the South West of England, (also largely regarded by other English people as "peasants") and the influence of their way of speaking is very prevalent in modern-day American English.
Nowadays, people are sensible enough to recognise that regional accents have nothing to do with how well – or not – a person is educated – by the way – I am myself one of those "peasants" from the South West of England.
Spanish is Spanish. I didn’t know they had two versions of that program. I am really offended now. Don’t buy either of them. When you go to Latin America or Spain, you use the same fucking Spanish. I know because I’ve been to both places.

I disagree with all of the people that made the statement, "Spanish is Spanish". Truly, you do not know your dialect very well. I work in a Correctional Institution in Texas. Being soo close to the border, which is a back door for all Countries to enter, we get criminals from all regions of the World.. From Mexico, Laredo, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Spain, etc.. "Spanish is Spanish", is no different than saying, "English is English". The language may be the same at it’s foundation, but there are endless dialects of the language, based on what region of the world you are in. I think everyone would agree that English is spoken differently in different places. (Anyone ever talk to a person who was either from England or Ireland?) My Father was from Mexico, and my Mother was from Spain, and they definitely spoke Spanish differently. It was easier for us to understand our Dad’s Spanish, than our Mother’s, because of our closer proximity to Mexico. I am not talking about the way they actually pronounce their words. But, in the slang itself. Example: The slang for the word, "court" is pronounced "Courte’, but the the proper or formal pronounciation is "tribunal". My father(70 yrs) was speaking Spanish to a younger co-worker (28 yrs old), who was well versed in the language, and they had a hard time understanding every other sentence. Later, my friend said, "I thought your Father was fluent in Spanish?" I told him, "he is, but your Spanish is full of slang, and his is old school." Example #2: I was working in a unit that had numerous inmates that were "Spanish speaking". However, when we would get one that was from another Spanish speaking Country, there was definitely a language barrier between them. So, the language is the same by the root of the language, but is torn apart by slang, based on the defferent regions of the world you come from.
i would go with the latin america. The spanish from spain is almost the same thing the only difference is that they pronounce certain words differently but are spelled the same,the way they speak is similar to how Italians speak(high and low tone).and also in puerto rico the dont pronounce there r’s they pronounce it with an L.
It doesn´t matter, both are OK if you are learning, It´s the same with a few different words and it may have some differences in verbs:
You should learn ORIGINAL SPANISH (that’s from Spain).
Latin America, because it’s frequently used. There are some slight differences between dialects (just like Spanish between Latin American countries) like pronouns (the Spanish use "vos" a lot).
