What is the best way to study for the Spanish Regents that's tomorrow?
I have the Spanish Regents tomorrow and I was wondering: what is the best way to study for a foreign language state exam? Do you just review the vocabulary learned throughout your high school years, and just learn the grammar rules? Know how to conjugate the verbs and stuff like that? Just wondering.

just know how to conjugate verbs and take a few online regents for practice. it really isnt hard. theres a lot of pictures on it. There is a listening and writing section as well. just do your best and relax.
ps. for the listening look for key words to help you understand the passage rather than trying to understand the whole thing.
for example: if the question is… what is your host family going to do today?
and you hear something about a supermercado (supermarket), chances are if going to the supermarket is one of the choices, its the answer (not all the time tho.)
and for the essay, make it short and sweet. dont make it too complicated b/c then there will be mistakes. and AVOID ENGLISH. they will take off points if you put english in the essay. and use full sentences.
I’m taking it tomorrow too… it’s very general and I’ve only been taking Spanish for 2 years and I’m advanced because I have family who speak it… it’s very easy to score high on the test here’s suggestions I have heard from my teacher:
highlight or circle the part of the short answer passage you get your answer from so when you go back and check you can verify it’s correct
if you don’t know a lot of spanish, like you only know enough for the test, don’t try to translate the whole sentence the teacher says during the listening, listen for key words. i suppose that is most of the people taking the test.
during the writing, write stupid things to fill up room (ie food names, dates, etc.) you get credit for a word if you write out the date and stuff, so do that. the test is on the 22nd tomorrow so here’s how it’ll look
hoy es el veintidós de junio.
that means "today is the twenty second of june" and it translates weird to english but that’s totally correct in spanish
then if it’s a letter you can say either, if you’re writing to 1 person "Te estoy escribiendo porque…." meaning "I am writing you because" and then if the assignment wants you to write to more than 1 person you say "Os estoy escribiendo porque…" and that means I am writing to you all because…
It’s very simple especially the writing to get the points. Just take up room with stupid stuff. so if the task was "write to your penpal about your house" and you started with all of what i said :
Hoy es el veintidós de junio. Te estoy escribiendo porque…
that’s 10 out of 100 required words easy and done. if you have any more questions you can send me an email through the yahoo answers
And another tip for the writing…If you want to say something but you cant remember how to say it than try to go around it by using different vocab. If tjhe task is something along the lines of: you are going somewhere for vacation then say you will swim (nadar) in the sea (mar) or play on the beach (la playa). And then maybe you will eat (comer) an ice cream (helado) every night (cada noche). Lots of random things will give you the 100 words you need but one thing you must keep in mind is STAY ON TASK!
And for the reading comprehension parts just read it over once (even if you dont understand it at least you will get an idea what it means) and then read the questions and look for it in the passage. They usually go in the order of the passage and eliminate all the choices you know arent right. And dont be quick to look for answers, take it slow and make sure that none of the other choices make sense.
You dont really need to know how to conjugate verbs but it will help you with the essay. Also you should definitely have a pretty decent vocab knowing all the basic verbs (tener, hacer, ir, ser, saber, comer, llegar, tomar, viajar, haber, plantar, ect…) these verbs and many more will help you with the comprehension parts and the essay.
I think the best thing to do is take a practice regents and all the things you dont know write it down and look it up. See your score. If you do bad then take another and look up what you dont know (as far as vocab goes). Take them again and again until you feel confident but if you have a good idea what has been going on in class (and have a fairly good teacher) then you have nothing at all to worry about.
The speaking part was already 24 points and the esssays are (I think) 16 pts or so. THe listening is pretty easy and the reading comprehension isnt too bad either.
Good luck!
