You need to pay attention in your class, but most importantly you need to practice the language as much as you can. If you have Spanish speaking friends, practice conversing with them is honestly the best way to become familiar with it. However, classroom Spanish & street Spanish are somewhat different in various ways!

I learned Spanish as a second language just recently. Its not that hard and the best way to learn is to spend time in Spanish speaking neighborhoods, or if you have money visit Spain, thats what my friend and I did and we both learned Spanish faster than taking any class or tutorial ie) Rosetta Stone

The spanish is a hard language because there are too many conjugations.
I am a Mexican and even I think that spanish is a hard language, but if you give your best it wont be so hard, just like everything else. First you will learn the alphabet and its pronunciation. Then the basic vocabulary, like the numbers, some fruits and basics items. Then how to say Whats your name? I´m …… How old are you? Where are you from? and all that stuff. Then, it comes the verbs and conjugations, who are very hard. For you to learn them well, you most study a lot and learn to write them correctly. After all that you will have a basic spanish. Then everything else will be easy, but the grammar, who is the hardest to learn of spanish. There is no another way to learn spanish, but dont worry, if you study well and give your best, it wont be so hard. Luck.
