What is the best way to learn Spanish?
I am an 18 yr old girl who is very interested in learning languages, particularly Spanish. I've taken language classes before, at a high school level, but find that the traditional classroom approach to learning languages has not been effective for me; I have retained very little of the French and German that I studied.
Based on your own experience, which methods/programs were most effective for you when learning Spanish? And what study methods work best for you? I am willing to try Rosetta Stone, but the reviews I read were mixed; I'm not sure if its worth the investment. Is it worth the money, or are other programs better?
Thanks ![]()

rosseta stone or going to a spanish speaker country and surround by culture and people who speak it
Live in Spain, the country where Spanish come from.
Rosetta Stone is not worth it. If you have that much money, spend it on a trip to Spain, as the easiest and best way is to actually talk to the locals.
Second best is Live Mocha. The community there is extremely supportive, and there are multitudes of native speakers that want to talk to you so that they can learn another language as well.
They have several courses for free, in any language you want, and you can enroll in multiple languages simultaneously

I’d try using My Spanish Coach for iPhone or Nintendo DS. The iPhone app is extremely cheap at $5 and it teaches a little grammar but mostly vocabulary, but it isn’t one of those programs that is only focused on vocabulary. I got My Spanish Coach, but I wanted a little more grammar information, so I got Spanish for Dummies (All in 1). This book is pretty good; it has basic and intermediate chapters, and also helps with vocabulary. I wouldn’t use my money on Rosetta Stone unless you’re sure it works. They do have free demos on their website if you want to try it out.
You can try Pimsleur as a first step. Obviously, it depends on how you approach learning it, but if you’re immersed, it’s gonna be about 5 to 6 years on average, given you have a good grasp on at least 60% to 80% of common speech or vocabulary within the first two years. If you can’t get through that as soon as you can, and you take your time, you might be talking upwards of a decade to be able and get through a conversation. Nothing is impossible, but the truth is, you’re just not gonna become fluent without being immersed. It’s a thought process, and not really a flash card game. Most surveys actually show most successful amateur learners to do best with movies and a pocket translator. It’s usually a bit harder getting the ball going doing that, then say an organized program, but don’t be too intimidated by Spanish. Most people will understand the basic language structure within their first 300 vocabulary words. Just remember that there is no right or wrong way to go about it. It’s all a matter of 50% memorization, and 50% immersion. Most people start running away at the thought of having to memorize a large amount of material, but that’s what learning a new language is. Not very avoidable in this case. Good luck, and have fun…..
I found this on internet
Learn Spanish Fluently method
Hi,
Rosetta stone is probably not worth investment, although it is a good program. There are many other programs that costs less but offers the same or even more.
Here is side by side comparison of top Spanish language courses:

My personal favorites are Pimsleur Spanish or Rocket Spanish. Both programs encourage speaking.
The best method is to practice Spanish every day. There is a little point trying to remember too many words and verb conjugations. Practice speaking with any vocabulary you have.Just have the basic words, conjugations and sentence structure in place. One idea is to describe your everyday activities in Spanish.
