Learn to Speak and Understand Spanish
My language tutor told me the other day that my grammar is Spanish is better than in French, my native language. Does that mean I write better in Spanish then in French? As well as speaking?

I think it’s because we always take our native languages for granted. Plus we learn grammar in our native language at such an early age that it’s easy to forget the picky details in everyday conversation. Whereas when learning language, so much emphasis is put on grammar. And that’s what we concentrate on when speaking and writing to make sure we have it write. At least that’s what I think. I actually learning about English grammar (my native language) through learning Spanish (second language).
Typically one does not have the best of grammar in his/her native language because it’s something we learned as we grew up. Colloquial grammatical mistakes and dialects from different parts of the country and slang language cause people to neglect proper grammar in their native language. Usually in learning a second and third language at a later age, a student becomes more cognizant of the different concepts involved in tenses and conjugation. This can improve grammar in the native tongue due to consciousness of the rules. Slacking in the grammar department in your native language just proves your comfort in its familiarity.

Probably just writing, unless you very rarely speak French I doubt you have trouble with that.
My husband’s first language is French, he can never conjugate right in writing, even remembering which is "as" and which is "a", whereas I originally learned in school and I only have trouble with pronunciation and vocabulary. Plus sometimes I get genders or subjonctifs wrong.
