Teach yourself Spanish resources?
I am wondering if anyone can help me out by providing some info on good books, software, tapes etc to learn Spanish. I can't go to a class or anything like that as I will be doing field work and living in remote conditions for 4 months - figure that it would be the perfect time to really teach myself the language.

Jason made a good point. Any community college bookstore should have textbooks. As far as I know, none ask for a student ID. The problem with that is you learn all the grammar, at that rate you’ll learn a few phrases in months.
If I were you, I’d go to a local bookstore (ie barnes and noble) and buy a pocket manual. You’ll learn how to speak without the writing grammar in weeks. That’s how I picked up German.
If you have time, go to your public library. They have loads of self-teaching "courses." They’re really good too.
go to a school and buy a spanish book
