Take Spanish lessons from a non-native speaker?
I'm looking to receive private Spanish instruction (I'm at the advanced level), and the one tutor offering lessons on my campus isn't a native speaker. Should I take lessons from her? Would I be able to learn more from a native or non-native?

Meet with her once and judge her accent for yourself. I’ve taken French classes with non-native speakers who speak French flawlessly.
Native speakers aren’t *automatically* better. They also have to be GOOD speakers. You wouldn’t take English lessons frum someone hu rote liek dis… Not all native speakers are equal.
One advantage of a non-native speaker is that often, having learned the language themselves, they can offer a comprehensible explanation of the rules (as opposed to native speakers, who understand the rules intuitively and may not be able to articulate them).
Obviously, a native speaker who speaks WELL and knows how to teach is ideal, but don’t rule out this tutor just because she isn’t a native speaker. Use your judgment.
Is the lady tutor who is offering Spanish lessons on your campus helpful and approachable? You would be able to learn more from a native Spanish speaker.
Are you really advanced? let’s chat………. i would like to see how good is your spanish.. just for fun………
que dices? espero que te animes.
yes, i agree with you, you should expect your tutor to be a native speaker… again, i don’t know anything about your tutor, does s/he have an accent? can u tell?
if you want to chat, my yahoo is botelladeaguaaa@yahoo.com
Katie, I have never met a non native spanish speaker who speaks good spanish….. again, allow me to test your spanish skills………..
que dices? realmente quisiera comprobar si es cierto lo que dices, que pena, pero dudo que tu español sea tan bueno como el de un sudamericano .
It doesn’t really matter. I mean I’m a non native speaker and I know it just as well as a native even though most people don’t believe me, I always prove them wrong so its up to u but it really doesn’t matter.
if he speaks Spanish should take lessons with him, if you want I can help you with your Spanish, if you help me with English, please say yes
