My native language is English, but I've learned (but still have quite a bit to go before I'm completely fluent) Spanish. I'm curious as to which language is easiest for someone who has already learned Spanish to learn.

Catalan, Italian, Portuguese?

my Native language is kurdish. my second language (that is spoken in my country is persian). i know english and turkish too. i want to learn spanish by myself. can i learn it? what is the best way to learn it?

Ok, so everytime I go somewhere and I'm checking out, the cashiers always talk to me in Spanish. Yes, I am Hispanic, but my primary language is English. I was born and raised in America. My mom is Hispanic, and my dad is of Italian descent. I look Hispanic, meanwhile my brother is as white as can be!! Anyway, it hacks me off when cashiers talk to me in Spanish. I reply to then in English, yet they reply in Spanish! The worst of these is the gas station attendant. He's an Arab ( go figure). How would he like it if I spoke to him in his "native language"? Well, just for fun I went home and taught myself a few words in Arabic (sp?). I went back o the gas station and said "hello, how is your day going?" Would you believe he laughed and told me he only speaks English?! Well, this made me mad beyond belief.
Does this kind of stuff happen to you when you go out? Do people ever speak to you in what they assume is your main language? Does it bother you? Share your experiences please!! :)

I'm looking into getting my masters degree in Puerto Rico (Library Sciences) and from a basic search, it looks like they offer that degree in at least one university in Puerto Rico.

I can speak Spanish fairly well, however, it is not my native language and even with an advanced grasp on the language I would struggle if the courses were primarily in Spanish.

Has anyone ever studied in a university there? What language were your classes taught in?

It's not my native language (I'm taking this class in high school).

Fluency and pronunciation go hand in hand right? Is it necessary to have correct pronunciation when applying for a job that requires speaking Spanish?
Gracias.
I'll remember to pronounce words more clearly.

So I am planning to take any of the following language course. Which do you think is easiest to learn?
* French
* Italian
* German
* Spanish
* Portuguese
* Russian

I feel great affinity with Spanish because some of the words used in Filipino, my native language came from Spanish and I read some (and understand little) Spanish gender differences, but cannot speak it nicely. I am considering to take German too, well, I don't know why but I think German words and their spelling are great though difficult to pronounce and write. Russian is good too, but I guess I have to learn Cyrillic, apart from learning the language... French is good too, but I am not after the perfection of pronunciation. After all, my English diction isn't that great, so I am not expecting to be good in French.

This language doesn't do anything to my degree. It won't affect my grade, never be credited for my curriculum. I am taking it only for fun, and extra knowledge of foreign culture.

I'm 15 years old and I want to learn Spanish real bad. I don't take it in school but I'm going to start at home using those learn Spanish in your car audio lessons and maybe a few books, and as soon as school finishes I'm planning on getting better resources. Then I'll go on to watching Spanish shows on Tv and listening to Spanish music. There is no way I can move to a Spanish-speaking country though, and I'm Arabic but I speak English as if it's my native language and a bit of French. So how long will it take me to learn it fluently keeping in mind that I'm a teenager and I will be dedicated but still have my times and neglect a bit. Be honest I'm okay if it's even 5 years or 10 as long as I learn it.

I want to broaden my languages. Native language, English of course, but I'm learning Latin at school. I have been taking Latin for the past three years and have two more years to go, so I can't take Spanish at all through school, so I was wondering what are good sites/books to use to study? Thanks!

I really like learning languages so I was wondering how many French courses and Spanish courses would I need to take in university in order to teach it in the secondary level (high school) I live in Canada so it would in Ontario for example.
Great Johnathon W, quick question. Is spanish or french your nativr language or did you learn it through school? I want to know if it is possible to become one since those languages are not my native language (english is). Also what was required for your state? Thanks.

Teachers in many states now have to deal with entire classrooms of immigrant children that speak only Spanish. The principals are forced to let go single language teachers because schools need teachers that can speak the language of illegal immigrants. Prinicpals require teachers must be able to teach children in their native language. And teachers must be able to talk with illegal immigrant parents to discuss severe problems with bad behavior done by illegal immigrant children.

Also, many teachers report that illegal immigrant children are far behind in their studies. That slows down the learning process for any American child that happens to be in the same classroom. That child is forced to cope since they have no choice in picking their classmates.

Teachers also report that many teenage illegal immigrant children can't even add and subtract simple numbers. And that a surprising amount of the illegal immigrant students can't even write any langauge, including Spanish.

I decided to learn italian because I consider that it's a very sexy(exotic) language and spanish because a lot of people are speaking spanish in America, plus it cannot hurt me to know and speak fluently 4 languages.
I already speak 2 other languages.

Thank you!
Currently I speak romanian (my native language)which is very close to italian and spanish and english for the last 6 years.

Hello,
I am searching for a method(s) to learn Spanish (Latin-American). I have become very interested in the language and culture.
The majority of web sites I have visited are not very thorough or do not offer an extensive amount of material.
I have recently become aquainted with several Hispanic people at my place of employment. I would love to have the ability to converse with them in their native language.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you....

South Americas talk should be Mayan or any other native language.

I am determined to learn both Languages, Ive been trying to study them both at the same time but I found its not helping, so I want to start out by learning one first and then the other.

Which one would be easier to learn first?

Also Spanish is my native language if that helps.

Thanks.

I live in the upper midwest US. English is my native language. I learned German as a child (and still use it), and I learned Spanish as a teenager (still use that as well).
What would be a practical language for me to learn now?
Any reasonable answers are welcomed.
Thank you.

Hey I'm searching for someone whose native language is english but also know spanish! I've updated a fanfiction about an anime called soul eater but my native language is spanish and i'm sure i've got some grammatical mistakes... so if anyone here knows spanish please I need some help! please please please! you can give me your e-mail and i'll send you my chapters

Or does the old, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" apply more? Shouldn't these immigrants learn english and not come to a country illegally and expect everyone to speak to them in their native language instead of bothering to learn the native language of the country that they have immigrated into?
This is not a lie lol. Go look it up on You Tube and watch the video where Obama makes that exact statement.

I want to learn to speak Spanish fluently. My native language is english and I can already speak french fluently. Do you know of any good, free iPod touch apps or free websites that will help me? I don't really like chat rooms, though. Your help would be greatly appreciated!!

I am by no means being hateful.....I just don't understand the backwards practice of forcing the host country to learn the incoming immigrant's native language. If I was to move to Mexico or some other Spanish speaking country.....I'd be forced to learn that language just for survival.

She received a slew of hateful answers.

My question is why do Hispanics expect other immigrants to learn three languages when they are unwilling or unable to learn two?

Remember, no previous group of immigrants has ever expected government services to be provided in their native language. Why are members of The Race so special? And do you realize it would only take one word to turn La Raza into the The Master Race....and we all know where that led.

Hi, I'm an International student in Texas. English is actually an foreign language to me. I learned English the past 2 years and I think I'm ok at it now.
However, my college required me to have 2 semester of a single foreign language, of course other than English. They don't accept my native language, Vietnamese, as a foreign language.
So what foreign language should I learn? Spanish or French? Which one is easier?
Thanks a lot, everyone!

i speak english fluently, but i really want to be able to speak another language. i started to learn spanish and i can understand some words becuz they sound similar to my language. my skool is mostly latinas and they all speak spanish. i just get overwhelmed by all the grammar rules etc. what should i do? thnx ppl

okay i took Spanish for 4 years back when i was in high school, that was awhile ago, but i can still understand the language if spoken slowly (no one speaks slowly though lol) and sometimes if its written i can read and comprehend whats written down but i can't speak Spanish at all and i don't understand enough to hold a conversation with a Spanish speaker

i'm in a relationship with someone whose first language is Spanish and i think it would be cool if i learned to speak his native language

Hey! I don't know what to do! Actually I speak four languages: Catalan (as my native language), then Spanish (I have learn Spanish all of my life and I can speak it as a native speaker), English (I have learn English all of my life but I'm not good at all) and French (I have been learning French since two years ago and I can speak it, but it's a bit difficult to me).

I love South Korea and Japan and generally all of the Asian countries. I love their culture, their languages, their countries and lol all! But I'm in a messsss. I don't know if I have to choose Korean or I have to choose Japanese. I know that both are difficult languages but I think I'll be better in Japanese... (because of the phonetic, Korean phonetic is so difficult! Although Japanese has a lot of Kanjis...). But I love Korean so much!! And Japanese too, of course! I don't know what to do but I'm not able to choose both. Actually I'm taking classes of: Catalan, Spanish, English and French. And is impossible for me to study two other languages! I can only choose one... I have no time!

Which language learn, Korean or Japanese?
Thanks, x

One of my closest friends likes to read books in Spanish rather than English because Spanish is her native language. I want to buy a really thoughtful birthday gift, and I thought a popular novel translated into Spanish would be perfect. Any recommendations as to where i could purchase this type of gift?

Hi, I am a Filipino and I speak the native language of the Philippines (tagalog), and also English as my second language. Since 2008, I've been learning Hindi language by the help of Internet. A few months ago, I decided to learn Spanish also.

Can you give me some tips on how to learn quickly a foreign language?

This is for a schoolwork. Thanks in advance for your answers!

If the answer is yes...
♦Where do you study (school, institute, university) ?
♦Do you like it? Why? Why not?
♦Do you find it easy, or rather difficult?
♦What stuff is used to study (books, audio CDs/cassettes, flashcards, the internet, etc.) ? Can you say the name of the book or web site?

If the answer is no...
♦Would you like to do it?
♦How would you do it? (e.g. ask a teacher or a native speaker, buy a book on the subject, read, watch and listen to the Hispanic media--radio, TV, press, etc.)

♦Are there Spanish speakers in your area?
♦Do you listen to Spanish music? Who do you listen to? (e.g. Juanes, Shakira, La Oreja de Van Gogh, Tiziano Ferro, Julieta Venegas, Maná, other...)
♦What do you think of Spanish culture?

THANK YOU!
♦Which is your native language? (English, French, Italian, German, Chinese, Russian, Portuguese, Romanian, ...)
Where do you live (country) ? (the US, Canada, Britain, France, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Japan, ...)
Well. I do understand all I wrote here, and I speak Spanish. All you have to do is to answer some of the questions. Thanks again.

I went out to eat with a couple of my friends and one of them said:

"I'm sick of everyone having to study and speak Spanish everywhere we go just to communicate. It isn't fair that we have to do so. If you went to any other country in the world, you'd have to learn their native language FIRST, not they learn ours. If you want to communicate in France, you must know French. In Germany, German. It is simply not right. By us Americans requiring everyone to learn Spanish and make our businesses and schools speak it, we are enabling Hispanics to be delinquent; we are allowing them to not do what is required to become citizens, which is speak English, because you can't become a citizen without knowing English. We are letting them slide, which is not fair to the other immigrants, and it is not fair to us at all. This is America, we speak English. Hispanics are having their way around here."

What do you think?

I would like to find a penpa, to study Hebvrew or English, my native language is Spanish.
