It pisses me off when someone that is fluent in spanish that comes from a Latin American country tells me that its good to learn spanish....WHY!?!?! I'm already over here, and YOU want to come over here! If I were to go live in Mexico or any other country, I would have to learn their language in order to survive! I think the same should hold true for ALL people that emigrate to the United States too!! If you want to live in the United States, you should learn how to speak the language!! Let me just say I am not racist, and there are alot of hispanics that do not speak spanish that would agree with me! What do you think?

I wanted to go to Mexico becaue it is cheaper than other programs but I heard that they hate black people down there. I dont want be stuck somewhere for 6 months and have the worst time of my life. I heard similar things about spain, colombia, and almost every other spanish speaking nation.
So which nation would be the best for me to go to w/o being treated like crap?

Say I want to learn Spanish, but there isn't really a way for me to take a class or move to Spain or Mexico. I do have friends with whom I can speak Spanish and practice with. How can I learn to read, write, and speak the language on my own? Please assume that I am very serious about this, and I will put in the time and effort to learn and practice.

Thank you.

I am debating whether to learn Arabic or Spanish as a third language. I am wondering if I was to learn Spanish, the dialect taught in American schools, would I be able to understand the Spanish spoken in Spain, Mexico, Uruguay, and so on? I know there are differences in the language between countries but would it be too difficult for a non-native speaker to understand?

I'm taking Spanish 1 next year for sure (sophomore year), but I'm eager to get a head start. Mostly because I am in Mexico right now and hardly anyone at this resort speaks English so now I'm really wanting to learn before next time I come back (2 more years) haha. How hard is it to learn and about how long would it take to learn fluent Spanish?
Would it be easy to get a hard start by learning some Spanish online or is online trickier than a class?

I'm a single guy, i'm 25 years old and I would like to go to mexico to visit and be a tourist. Now my Spanish is not so hot, but i'm wondering where would you recommend a single 25 year old guy who would be traveling by himself to go to around Mexico? I want to know of a safe place and interesting things to do? I hear there are a lot of robberies in Mexico and kidnapping of tourist, what do you suggest?

I need to do a book review about a few books from mexico that are in Spanish. Can anybody offer me a few titles that I could choose from?

I've studied at several and they all suck...Ecuador, Argentina, Costa Rica, Spain, Guatemala.

I want a Spanish school where the teachers aren't only locals, but actually educated with M.A's in education or Spanish language and teachers who acutally have teaching skills and don't only follow a book.

Please, nothing in Mexico (not interested in that accent).

English to sell to the US? People seem to think that someone is telling them they must learn Spanish to speak to the hispanic community, but when has anyone ever asked you to learn?
Hey angry POD, I am speaking English.
Not just selling to Mexico, but to spanish-speakers in the US.
grooming, you can choose not to put things in Spanish, just dont sell you stuff, your choice.
Alll dialects of Spanish understand one another well. Dont act like if you spoke Mexican Spanish, people from Cuba would not understand you, they would and do, ask my Cuban friend.
Zoe, I am not Hispanic, I never claimed to be. My husband and I help Mexico by taking care of his parents, bring things to his aunts, uncles, friends. I take letters and packages to and from Mexico to let friends communicate with their families. In my house in Mexico, we house his Mom, Dad, Sister, Neice and Nephew. It's a pretty big place. We have a bathroom with shower, something that they didnt have before we made our house there. I sadly cannot say that I have helped all of Mexico, though I have donated to the Red Cross there for the victims of Hurricane Stan. I cant help how you percieve me, I am just stating my beliefs.

Im 29 years old and want to go to a country in Mexico or Central America to learn Spanish. I can speak fairly well now, but would like to learn better grammar and how to read and write. Price doesnt matter as long as its a strong program.

I ask about Mexicans, and wonder why they don't learn the language at least before illegally immigrating to our country.

It never fails that someone asks "Why don't you learn Spanish before you go to Mexico?"...

The argument always ends when I reply with "I did."

And I would learn any language (enough to communicate) before I went to that country, or at least get a translator. I think it's very rude, just like I do about the illegal Mexicans.

Do you? Why or why not?

a) Mexico
b) Costa Rica
c) Chile
d) Colombia
e.... that's it. ( no more options, other countries speak Spanish from the 16th century using understandable accents )

I WANT TO GO TO MEXICO. BUT I CAN'T!
Test's in May.

Yes I watch Spanish television, but will that pull me through when I am sitting there with a TAPE RECORDER blubbering Spanglish in three months?

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Portugal, England, USA.

I'd like to know which countries speak Spanish as their dominant language. Thank you!

Hello, I'm a Spanish major interested in studying abroad next fall to learn Spanish. I would like to go to Mexico because it's less costly and more relevant to American culture (because of all the Mexican immigrants). So, I would like to know what you guys think of Mexico and the best places for me to study abroad where I would have little contact with Americans! I've heard Guanajuato, Queretaro, Cuernavaca, and Morelia are nice...

I met this girl while in Mexico that I really like. One of the problems is that when I'm in the States, our phone conversations tend to not go as smoothly as when we are in person. I think its because my conversational Spanish is not developed enough. Being that i know no one who speaks Spanish while im at home or in the States, how can i improve my conversational skills, any good programs?

I've considered taking a full academic year in Mexico to study Spanish but I only know of Enforex/Don Quijote schools. I would like to know if there are better ones? Anyone with experience perhaps or someone from Mexico can answer my question?

I am interested in studying Spanish in Mexico or South America. I want to study as an international student at a university, rather than going through a Spanish language program (such as don Quixote). Which universities have the best Spanish programs for international students?

What are the different ways (in Spanish) that Mexicans refer to white people? I'm looking for derogatory terms, polite terms, "correct" terms, anything.

More importantly, as a white female who speaks Spanish (rather, trying to become more fluent), how would I refer to myself?
And as long as everyone's stuck on being PC, I'm referring to Caucasian Americans.
I'd like to point out that I'm NOT referring to Mexicans as a race, and am asking specifically about people from Mexico. Hence, Mexicans. I mean no disrespect.

Hi, well Im from Mexico, Do you think that I speak good in english?, and Do you speak Spanish?

How long would it take to learn and able to speak Spanish to a decent degree?
I also plan to go to some Spanish country (Spain or Mexico) and possibly study there for 1 or 2 semester.
I also used to learn Spanish in HS about 3-4 years ago. Of course I forgot a lot, but still.
I also have plans to study Japanese after I would be decent or fluent in Spanish.
