I'm just curious. I do not understand why they need to take it. It is their first language, therefore, they already know how to speak it. I see many hispanics who speak Spanish as a first language, taking the Spanish course and they have no problems with it. I'm taking Spanish because I love learning languages and no, it is not my first language. It is my third.
Thank you for your kind answers!!!!
I am 20 years old.
I do have a background in learning other languages.
I have taken French in middle school and high school. Not fluent at all.
I have taken Arabic when I was living in an Arabic speaking country. I am no where close to being fluent. I used some on the street. But I got by with English, broken French, and broken Arabic.
The Arabic class that I took in Morocco was not really good. I barely retained anything.
I really want to become fluent in another language.
I really want to learn Spanish. I actually did not take any Spanish classes, I just use what I had picked up in the hallways/ school bus from high school.
I know that learning languages in a classroom is not a good way to pick up and speak a language fluently. Well, not for me.
Being thrown into another country to learn the language is way too tiring, and frustrating.
Is being 20 years old to old to learn another language and be able to speak it fluently?
I want to learn Spanish.
Thank you very much. Muchas gracias!
With classes, I am being taught a text book, not the language. If that makes sense.
Hmm... maybe if I take private classes, not ones that are academic then maybe that could be an option.
I grew up learning both Chinese and English. Chinese is my first language, but I started learning English in nursery school by age 2, so now, I excel in English more than Chinese, even though I still only speak Chinese with my parents. Why is it that my English surpassed Chinese? Also, does bilingualism have anything to do with learning other languages? I started learning Spanish in school in 6th grade, and I'm a junior now, but people are always surprised to learn I'm the top of my advanced class when there are French/German speakers who struggle a bit. I go to an int'l school and alot of my classmates are bilingual, so I don't get why it seems so hard for them to learn Spanish, or even French. My Chinese teachers have always said I learned Chinese really fast as a kid. I love learning languages and want to learn French in college, but I'm just wondering, are language learning skills genetic or innate?
Sorry I asked more than 1 q. but just answer as fully as possible. Thanks!
I am hopefully getting a job at Best Buy (They just called me to come in for a third interview) and I speak Spanish pretty well. I am very good a learning languages but I unfortunately only know the vocab that they teach us at school in Spanish class.
What are some words/phrases that fluent speakers would use that I could use when talking to someone in Spanish if I get the job at Best Buy?
i have always been really interested in speaking other languages. over the years i have tried..
-Arabic
-Russian
-Romanian
-french
-German
-Greek
i am learning Spanish in school already, but i think its kind of boring now that i have been forced by the school to take Spanish since i was in kindergarten. i had some trouble pronouncing the french words, but i know simple sentences.
The other language where i actually learned something German, because the pronunciation was really easy, and lots of the words were from the English language, or at least similar to.
i have trouble learning languages that don't use the letters/signs that English speaking ppl do. that is why i had trouble learning Arabic, Russian and Greek.
So I would like to know what language besides Spanish you think is the easiest that you have learned.
Okay, so I'm really interested in learning languages. I already know French [and obviously English] and now I would like to move on to Spanish. Are there any websites or anything that anyone knows of that would be helpful in teaching me [at least] the basics or anything with the Spanish language?? Thank you!!

I am going to college next year majoring in international business and minor in spanish. I suck at learning languages as I did in HS, and want a jump start before stepping in the classroom to learn the language, any suggestions that dont cost money?
So by the end of this year, I will have been done AP French, which is the highest level of French that my school offers.
I'm also going to take AP Mandarin, which wouldn't be so hard for me, since I'm Chinese and alreay know some.
Also, I can understand spoken Thai and speak a little (with an accent) because I lived there for some years as a kid.
I'm wondering if I should take Spanish or not next year. I live in Canada, where there is almost no Spanish speakers around. I'm also afraid that if I start learning it, I might just end up learning for 1~2 years then forget everything. In that case, it would be a total waste of time. And please don't tell me to take Spanish courses after high school. I'm going to learn Mandarin until a very high level for sure, and my French is pretty good (5 years of learning, with the first 2 years in a very intensive program) so if I were to continue an additional language it will probably be French. Also, I'm not planning to major in languages, so its not like I'd be learning languages all day.
On the other hand, I heard that Spanish is pretty easy to learn, so it would be great if I can pick up another language without putting in too much effort.
So...should I learn Spanish or not?
Hi.. I can only speak english, and I'm interested in learning another language. I did a two years of spanish in high school, wasn't anything formal it was more like how to respond to a situation. I haven't learned anything and I don't know any spanish. Although I just had to memorize responses, it was very hard - I am naturally bad at learning languages. So can any of you guys suggest an easier language to learn?
I really like learning languages so I was wondering how many French courses and Spanish courses would I need to take in university in order to teach it in the secondary level (high school) I live in Canada so it would in Ontario for example.
Great Johnathon W, quick question. Is spanish or french your nativr language or did you learn it through school? I want to know if it is possible to become one since those languages are not my native language (english is). Also what was required for your state? Thanks.
I chose to get my degree in Linguistics. I have associates but am going for bachelors now. I chose this not only cause it interests me but I feel I have a natural knack for learning languages and that it comes quick to me. I am very good with catching onto almost all languages, mostly european. But without sounding mean, I am a bit biased against Spanish and I do not care to learn it which is possibly why I fail to learn it due to my subconscious feelings. Ive tried to learn it, even with software. So my question is, will anywhere hire a translator/interpreter if they dont know spanish? Honestly, i feel not learning spanish will keep me from having a career of only spanish translations as there are so many spanish speaking individuals in the us these days. I dont want to translate spanish all day. Any suggestions?
I already speak french and german fluently.
I would like classes with preferably an experienced Spanish teacher, who can offer me spanish lessons , of course thru the internet. I'd enjoy being your student. I'm probably an advanced beginner now, and there are a lot of key aspects of Spanish I do not understand, that are hindering my progress. I honeslty love learning languages. (Free of charge if possible, if not....) Plz leave email if yes. Thanks in advance.
i love learning languages.....i already know 7 asian languages and i became fluent in spanish about a year ago but i wanna keep learning languages
what are the 5 easiest languages to learn after spanish
Hi. I currently speak English and Spanish fluently and would really like to learn another language. I love the way languages like Russian and Swedish sound, but I don't know how useful learning languages like those would be. My question is what languages do you all view as important or useful to know. Any advice or tips will be appreciated.
I play four instruments, (saxophone, trumpet, oboe and drums), am learning Spanish and would love to learn many languages in the future. I have heard that these two subjects are closely related. Would my musical ability help me to be be good at learning languages or cause confusion because of their close relation? I would appreciate any advice.
Gracias!
the emphasis is on the 'you'. i learned french as a child in bilingual school. it was an invaluable experience in my life. since then i learned nepali during a study abroad program and subsequently have forgotten most of it for lack of available opportunities. then learned spanish simply by living in mexico and the help of friends. now i'm learning korean, again with no classes or books, just through friends.
i guess my question is do you prefer formal methods, like classes or books? or do you hit the streets, make friends and do it yourself? personally i prefer the latter; to get a handle on the spoken language before i attempt reading and writing. this way, when i do read, i'll actually understand the words written. also, interpersonal communication is more vital to me than reading or writing in the early stages. what are your thoughts on learning languages? just go with it, spout your philosophy. thanks to all in advance.
So I want to know 4 languages (good job opportunities and easier travel). I know English, am studying Japanese and French (intermediate student in both), and I WAS going to learn Mandarin Chinese..... I've tried it, and I really don't like it. If I don't like it, it won't be fun xD (and learning languages is somehow fun for me lol)
I've LOVED Italian for awhile, I wanted to switch in school for both heritage and fun, but my parents depend on me getting a scholarship for French ( -_- ). I think it's a really romantic sounding language and I love the flow of it (similar to Japanese except Japanese doesn't stress vowels and stuff......) so I REALLY want to learn Italian.
However, in the US, Spanish is VERY important now. My best friend is from Paraguay and they speak Spanish at home (it's like a second home to me lol XD) and I've picked up some Spanish from her house. I've never been able to actually get into the language. It's never really appealed to me. I don't know what it is, the sound, I have no idea. Just doesn't (Funny cause I have a completely Spanish first and last name by coincidence- the first name wasn't on purpose and the last name is cause my dad misspelled our name when changing it back to what it was before Ellis Island- so instead of a Portuguese name we ended up with a Spanish name, so everyone thinks I'm Spanish xD It's quite funny actually.... spanish tele-marketers provide endless amusement and Japanese practice).
ANYWAY.
Which should I learn, Italian or Spanish. I don't think I could learn both of them right now, seeing as I have to push myself to learn basic German in like 2 weeks because we have an exchange student coming and then I'm going there. I like German, I may take it up later, but for now I'm just learning it cause I'll need to use it sometime soon. So which one should I learn, Italian or Spanish? I love Italian, but Spanish is SO much more useful in the US (even though I wanna travel a lot)...
Btw I'm not looking for "Well ____ is easier so you should learn that". I'm tired of hearing people say "Learn Spanish cause it's easy" it was everyone's excuse in middle school because they didn't want to take a language. -_- I wanted to hit them. So I'm not looking for difficulty, I'm just asking your honest opinion. Hell I've taught myself intermediate Japanese in like 2 years and I have pronunciation like a native(been studying for 3 years but I started making an effort after the first year lol). So which one should I learn (again xD). I enjoy Italian, but Spanish is important.
Pleeeaaase don't say they are the same language. Yes I know they're similar and I can read written Spanish with no problem due to French and some vocabulary links with English (and French).
im good at learning languages, I understand like 95% of what they say in spanish radio and books and I only studied it 2 1/2 years.
I want to learn German, maybe Russian and some other languages during my lifetime. I'm 19 years old and I have a passion for learning languages, but I never have the time to do it. Can I still learn them fast? I am Mexican, but I don't even fully know my own language. I never found an interest in learning Spanish, maybe because it's so frustrating to learn. Anyways, what language do you recommend learning? I would really like to talk to somebody on aim or msn in their language so I can learn whatever language. Really, just anything. It's an itch that I have to scratch, so please, can you scratch me?
I'm doing a lesson for my Global Citezenship class on learning languages in different countries and I needed some books, or tv shows that are used in Spanish speaking countries. If you list some books or shows that were read or viewed as a child that would help out enormously!
Can you learn spanish with that ipod electronic thing?
When you buy it does it have everything you need like cables or whatever to put on the computer to get some spanish enlgish things from the computer or what.
Can you get some spanish english things from the computer at computers at an internet cafe?
Is it that complicated to do that or not? How long does it take to download or get some spanish english things from the computer or internet or whatever?
What ipod thing is good for learning languages more than listening to music or watching movies. What ipod things are good to see some spanish flashcards or play spanish games?
At www.studyshack.com can you have a few of the spanish flashcards on that site. I like the site www.flashcardmachine.com and i think its good to learn spanish but sometimes i might not have a computer to practice the spanish. Can you practise spanish like on that site on that ipod thing.
What is the cheapest ipod to learn spanish
I heard that learning languages similar to the ones you know make it easier to learn. I am adept in the English language, decent in Malay and have limited grasp of Chinese.
I'm thinking of spanish/italian to learn next, what do you reckon? ( Western European languages please)
A few years ago, I really liked learning Spanish since I am a "language person". Since I like learning languages so much, I majored in German in hopes of becoming a HS German teacher. But thanks to all those Hispanic immigrants, a lot of schools have dropped German and even French in order to make more room for Spanish. Now, I've graduated, have no job whatsoever, and I'll probably never become a German teacher thanks to all those legal and illegal Hispanic immigrants. Not only that, I was a camp counselor last summer where I ran a Native America program and I had to end every day's program saying how the Spaniards came in the 16th century and wiped out those poor Indians (90-95% of them, to be exact). So, can someone give me a legitimite reason to learn the language of the people that wiped out those innocent Indians (i.e. the Spaniards) AND the people who cost me my DREAM JOB (i.e. the Latin Americans)? Do I sound like an ignorant jerk or do I have reason to be pissed?
I am an 18 yr old girl who is very interested in learning languages, particularly Spanish. I've taken language classes before, at a high school level, but find that the traditional classroom approach to learning languages has not been effective for me; I have retained very little of the French and German that I studied.
Based on your own experience, which methods/programs were most effective for you when learning Spanish? And what study methods work best for you? I am willing to try Rosetta Stone, but the reviews I read were mixed; I'm not sure if its worth the investment. Is it worth the money, or are other programs better?
Thanks
I'm just learning languages for fun on a website
I already speak english, am fluent in french, and I'm learning spanish on the website.
What other languages would be fun to learn?
i use livemocha.com
It's pretty good.
There aren't really any grammar lessons though >.<
If i am also good at learning languages?
If not three months, what is the quickest amount of time I could learn spanish?
I want to learn spanish and I know that there are free tutoring for learning languages but where can I go to find this. I need audio for the best pronouciations.
