i know that there are grammar rules that exist for english that is why sometimes it gets so complicated but for spanish, does it have grammar rules as well? i think i want to learn spanish language to use in my job in the future. please answer. decent answers please . no room here for rudeness.

Our Latino gardener is a nice guy, but he is saying we owe him for the past two (2) weeks. But we need to tell him, "Sorry, last week's job wasn't good enough. You didn't cut the grass low enough. So your check is only , not . Sorry, but we can only pay you 100 percent if you cut the grass low enough."

please help thank you!!! how do we say this in spanish, but still be nice about it????

Fact is that the Southwestern US is often mostly Latino. The Latino population has been getting so much bigger over the years. We already make up more than 50% of the population in cities like L.A. So why are some Americans still too lazy to learn Spanish? There are many Mexicans who don't speak a word of English, so you're at a disadvantage if you want to sell to them, hire them or get a job.

I did Spanish in high school, but don't really remember any. I need to learn a basic level of Spanish for my job. What would be the best way to learn, without spending a lot of money?

I am currently studying spanish portuguese and italian language, aswell as culture, politics, history and litreature.

I was wondering , apart from teaching, what jobs would i be suited to? Would being fluent in all 3 languages be an advantage for any particular job/ attractive to a certain type of emplpyer?

What kind of job could i get from a BA in spanish, portuguese and italian?

Because of my job I deal with people from different Countries, I've found out that I get annoyed by people greeting me or even trying to start a conversation in Spanish, but most people are unable to carry on with a conversation, and that makes it really awkward ,It think this is patronizing am I overreacting?

I'd love to go to Japan and speak it if I ever get a job there (which is slim, since i doubt they have vet jobs there). I want some websites with learning Japanese easily, because I'm already learning Spanish, so I want an easy way for a website to teach me Japanese. Not fast, because there's no such way. A website where it's easy to understand Japanese and learn it.

I don't have Spanish speaking family or friends but I do live in a city where there is a large Spanish speaking community and I often have a difficult time finding someone to interpret at my job. So I want to learn. I've tried in the past to take classes at a community college but twice I dropped it because the class moved fast and I had a hard time catching on. Should I invest in a program like Rosetta Stone?

I am learning Spanish, so that I can get a better job. Shouldn't be just do that, instead of hating them? We could just combine the countries and there would be no problems. Why don't we do this?

I am 15 years old almost 16 and I am FULL Latina Puerto rican and Mexican and my parents speak fluent Spanish and English, they never taught me Spanish and I bug them about it up til this day. I've been dying to learn to speak fluently and I have a job at a Spanish supermarket it would really help. any suggestions??

If your job posted you in a rural American town which is full of Hispanics & no English speakers - would you work in that town & learn Spanish so as to interact with the locals?

Spanish is my second language, but I would consider myself fluent (Spanish major, spent a year in Costa Rica studying abroad, girlfriend is a native speaker).

I know my potential to get a job will increase, but would my salary increase as well?

Spanish level after one year in Argentina?
Hello,

I was hoping i could get some good answers.

I have a job starting in Buenos Aires soon, lasting one year. I have studied spanish on and off for four years (2 years in school, 2 years evening classes). I consider myself decent level yet when i do online assessment tests i generally come out at intermediate(lower) level. Pretty dissapointing but there we go.

My job will be only partly talking in spanish, in the office, needing enough to get by. Mostly i will be talking in english to british clients.

However, i will be likely to have an argentinian girlfriend i have met out there before.

After one year of living in buenos aires, with an ok standard to begin with, what sort of level do you imagine i will have by the end? in general i am fairly good with languages. Any advice welcome....!

I have been wanting to learn Spanish for some time now, and would love to live in a Spanish country to do so. I am taking online classes also. So I guess my question for everybody would be what is the best way to live in a Spanish country while taking online classes. I would like to work also if that is possible to make money to live and such stuff like that so if anybody has any ideas that would be great. I am going for a sports degree so something in that category for a job is great.
Thanks

Now before you freak out and say I am generalizing, I know I am. There are certain americans who do learn, speak other languages, but for the most part they don't.

I am a white American, and I notice other Americans, specifically WHITE americans look down upon or think its weird if a white American speaks another language.

For example, I can speak spanish, and alot of my friends ask me what, you are mexican now? or why do you speak spanish? or say rude things. they will put me down or think its weird.

SPECIFIC EXAMPLE: This white American guy I was dating asks me what are you all Mexican now? when i hadn't seen him in two years and he knew i had learned spanish because he saw lots of people speaking to me in spanish on my myspace.
about 2 weeks later we went together to a latin fried chicken fast food place, Pollo Campero, and the drive through worker started speaking in spanish, so i orded in spanish, and i became really embarassed because the guy i was with make his eyes so big like this O_O and like look at me like i was weird and rolled his eyes and laughed.

what is the big deal? i have deal with this from many other people too.
ATL, you look black, and by reading your post i know your american. i think its only americans that think as ignorant and close minded as you.

too bad i would get a better job than you for knowing a second language. ha
in many other countries alot of kids learn 2 languages.

also @ ATL, yes I guess I am trying to be different. I am trying to educate myself, unlike people like you. And guess what, I am different. And you never will be.

What types are of jobs are there for Americans who do not speak spanish? Will it be hard to get a job and work permit? What type of pay can I expect? Have a 10 year old son. Are there any bi-lingual schools he can attend until he learns spanish? I am currently married to a Panamanian (seperated). He will assist me with the move but I would still like some other opinions. Thanks any advice will be appreciated.

I live in the northeast. We were the first colonies. I'm 55yrs. old and only speak English or American if you will. My life is far from over. I should'nt have to learn Spanish, Japanese or any other language to get a job. I learned french from 7th grade on. Wow! That's served me well.(not) Am I the only person that thinks this way? Stop this insanity with your vote. Please.

For example, to get a job in healthcare.

-I like to listen to music that is different.
-I played the guitar for 5 years.
-I want a job that excites me.
-I wish everyone would have a good future
-I don't think classes can get more difficult than this year's classes
-A replacement screen (as in mp3 player screen) costs 50 dollars.

I live in El Paso where the population is predominantly mexican, i have been trying to get a job for weeks, but every job i apply for i get turned down because im not billingual. i have two kids to feed and the bills keep coming. it makes me so angry. why cant they get out and live in thier own country? they could make it like america if they like it here so much. im sure mcdonalds would open up a chain down there.
i dont think you idiots understand that in america the official language is english. and just because mexicans invaded shouldnt mean that i have to learn thier language to work.

i work in a preschool and i have six spanish speaking children in my classroom, three of the children are bi-linqual they can speak both spanish and english the other three can speak some but i want to learn how to speak spanish b/c i feel that if i am going to be successful at my job as a teacher i need to be able to communicate with all my children and i feel that the hispanic children would feel more comfortable if they knew that when they entered our classroom their was someone who can speak their lanquage. we do not have a translator in the building at all and i think that this is a disservice to the kids in my room...i have tried to listen to spanish tapes but it does not seem to be working i seem to learn more from the children b/c they teach me certain words and phrases in spanish but i want to learn more b/c i feel it is necessary to service not only our children but their families as well....

Why do I have to pay to learn how to speak Spanish? When someone that speaks Spanish can learn English for free? Most job want some one that can speak both languages

It is hard to get a job anymore if you don't speak Spanish..Is that fair? I wouldn't mind learning the language but should it be imposed upon us? Some day we will have to #2 for English instaed of #1......

I live in Canada and have been learning french for 6 years now. I am going into grade 10 and just took a test with the French Immersion teacher who said I'm not good enough for French Immersion but she said I don't need to take grade 10 french next year so next year when I'm in grade 10 I will be taking grade 11 french provided there is room. When I first started learning French in grade 4 I was highly motivated and loved it. Now that I am in grade 10 I am realizing that I have wasted 6 years learning this language when I am still not fluent. I took one year of French Immersion in grade 7 then went back to core and I've regretted taking core ever since. I'm beginning to loose motivation to learn French in the first place and am having difficulty determining where I am in French and what I need to learn. I've lost a LOT of my French due to the fact that in Grade 8 my French teacher taught us nothing and watched English football games all day. I feel so behind and discouraged. I don't know what to learn and what not to learn and on top of that I'm reading articles about how difficult French is.
I have also been learning basic Spanish on my own. I don't know why, but I think a big part of it is because it's supposedly very easy. Though I don't really like the idea of starting over I feel slightly more motivated to learn Spanish. However the problem is I live in NB, Canada where if you can speak French since this is a bilingual province you are much more likely to get a job than if you speak Spanish, a language barely used in this country from what I understand.
I'm just confused, unmotivated, and I need some really good advise.

Thank you so much,

Kody

Richard, your absolutely right about the vocabulary, thats what the FI teacher told me is that my vocabulary isnt good enough for immersion and I'd likely pass but not with very good grades. So far I'd say you're the most likely to get best answer on this :)
Okay thanks Kat

I work full time as a nurse, and I like my shift. I want to study abroad in Peru for 4-6 weeks, studying Spanish and volunteering. I cannot take more than 2 weeks off and would probably have to quit my job. I get married next year, and this is probably my last opportunity.

I am worried though, that I will hate whatever job I have when I return, considering the market, even in health care- hospitals are not hiring.

I just took a job at a company that requires it's employees to be bi-lingual. In the interview I said I was fluent in 8 languages, including spanish. I'm a fast learner... I learned pig-latin in a day. Is it possible to learn spanish in two days before I start this job?

If you are qualified to do a job, is it fair to have to be able to speak Spanish because they don't know how to speak English? If I was dealing with people abroad and must speak their language in order to do business, then yes I would understand. But, this is to deal with people right here in America. What's your take?

I want to know some basic things to say on the phone to a Spanish speaking person. This will help me on my job. There is no one at work who can speak Spanish; I'm probably the best one and I suck. I already know "Hola" for "Hello". I need to know:

"May I speak to (name)?"

"May I leave a message?"

"Let me look that up for you."

"Please hold."

The words for:

gas meter
appointment
meter reading
install, installation
installer, serviceman
schedule, set
reschedule
time frame, time window
device
maintence

I need to know how to say dates, like July 12.

Please help.

I'm a college student with a pre nursing degree and I'm trying to get a job in the medical field until I finish school. But most of the positions I apply for want u to be bilingual or at least it's a preferance. I really need to learn this language and I don't want to take it at school because I already have too many credits for an Associate degree and I don't want anything to interfere with my finantial aid for nursing school.
