I've always wanted to become fluent in a second spoken language. I took Spanish all throughout high school. Although I like Spanish, I would LOVE to learn French or Russian. I'm considering taking a class this summer and hopefully continuing study of whichever language I choose in the future. I'm 21 (a junior in college) - is it too late to become fluent in a second language? I know there is a certain age bracket for language learning & fluency. And just out of curiosity, should I continue learning Spanish because I already know the basics & it's more practical, or start from scratch and learn Russian or French? Thanks for your help!

Im honduran. About 95 percent of my family including my parents both speak english and spanish... I grew up not really speaking spanish. When I was little my mom tried teaching me but when I would go to school It seemed like I would get confused between the two languages english and spanish. So Teachers told my mom that I had a speech problem. So long story short in order to prevent problems in the future for me My parents just taught me english, never to really learn spanish again.

I am 20 years old now. If I hear a spanish person talking or when my parents talk in spanish I pretty much know exactly what they are saying. Most times I can repeat back in english word from word what I just heard in spanish. & Sometimes I get confused or thrown of by a certain word but I'm always on point as far as what the topic was regarding. So I'm not dumbfounded at all as far as spanish is concerned. BUT the problem comes when I have to speak back! I get tongue tied, I have to double think how to conjugate this word or that one. If I want to know what something means in spanish i have to ask or look it up. When 9 times out of the 10 i heard the word million of times before... FUNNY THING IS, I can read and write spanish(writing is not soo so perfect) but everything in spanish i perform so well in except speaking it. I guess its because i started learning through hearing and years ago when i got serious about it I started reading it. Then in highschool i took a spanish class for about three years where i learned more and also wrote in spanish...... I tried getting my parents to help, but sometimes my mom is impatient when i ask what this and that means. And she talks spanish to me because its something we are so use to doing. My Dad never speaks spanish, even in Honduras. Because he grew up on an Island where they only spoke english, and just recently he started speaking spanish often because of where he works but i think he prefers english better..... So right now its only me teaching myself, my only sources that I have is hearing others when they speak and an online translator. So I was wondering what can I do, to perfect at it speaking wise?? When I watch spanish tv shows or movies, most of time they talk themself and American tv shows & movies don't do that. Why?

I'm doing my Spanish term project, but I'm unsure about how to say a few things.

"It was made in 1989"
"It stars Alex Winter as Bill S. Preston and Keanu Reeves as Ted Logan."

Bonus points if you know what movie I'm talking about.
Also:

"This movie is about two boys, Bill & Ted. They are failing their history class and use a mysterious telephone booth to go back in time to get historical figures." I can translate that sentence basically, but I don't know exactly what it would be. Thanks!

Okay, so I know my vocabulary, but I'm not exactly sure how to put the bits & pieces together to form a complete sentence. I'm only in Spanish II, so I don't really need advanced vocabualry or sentences. How would you say:

- I listened to my parents and teachers.

- I didn't talk to very many people.

- I played many sports and games.

I have home in Coral Gables, FL (Miami) and in Atlanta. Both areas have a significant Latino population. Both my business and social life extends into those communities including dinners, parties and social gatherings. I have a Latino girlfriend who knows little English and I know only a little Spanish. Romance is a very powerful force and it is true that love can conquer all...but I sure would like to learn to speak Spanish fluently. Short of going back to school, what is the quickest & best way that I can learn to speak Spanish? Do I have to find an attractive BILINGUAL Latin girl who can tutor me one on one OR what? I am registering for high school classes, & now I want to change my Spanish class to French, but I'm not sure if it's a good or bad idea. I live in America (Illinois specific), if that helps. I don't know what I want to do in the future, but currently I participate in music & theatre activities, so maybe the language I learn can help with that.

I'd really like to be able to speak another language (aside from Spanish. Every Tom, Dick & Harry knows Spanish.) But I am one of those people who tends to get frusterated easily. I know the major languages there are Berber, French & English but I'm just wondering coz almost all my many Morrocan friends that I met talk to me in Spanish. In fact one of them prefer to speak in Spanish than the other 3 languages.

I'm not a native spanish speaker but I'm interested in learnin' spanish. The only person in my family who speaks it fluently is my abuelo (grandpa). However i need some tips on how i could learn it without class. I'm a 16-year-old female (black & Puerto Rican) in high school. I'm a Junior. I would've went on with spanish 3 but i had too many reqiurements. How can I learn spanish fluently. Please help!

-& would the average Catalonian be able to communicate with anyone speaking reg. Spanish and vice versa, or would they not understand them?
-would it be beneficial if one were to know a bit of Catalan for dealing with the locals more efficiently or is there no need for it.. like how long would it take to learn basic Catalan for someone who already knows a fair amount of Spanish?
