I grew up learning both Chinese and English. Chinese is my first language, but I started learning English in nursery school by age 2, so now, I excel in English more than Chinese, even though I still only speak Chinese with my parents. Why is it that my English surpassed Chinese? Also, does bilingualism have anything to do with learning other languages? I started learning Spanish in school in 6th grade, and I'm a junior now, but people are always surprised to learn I'm the top of my advanced class when there are French/German speakers who struggle a bit. I go to an int'l school and alot of my classmates are bilingual, so I don't get why it seems so hard for them to learn Spanish, or even French. My Chinese teachers have always said I learned Chinese really fast as a kid. I love learning languages and want to learn French in college, but I'm just wondering, are language learning skills genetic or innate?
Sorry I asked more than 1 q. but just answer as fully as possible. Thanks!
Now I understand in california there's alot of mexicans but still do we really need that much of them ?
I am declaring international business as my major and it requires 26 hrs (8 classes) of spanish. I am kind of a slow leaner especially when it comes to foreign languages. I would like to get a head start before i take the classes. I cant afford rosetta spanish now--trying to sell of alot of stuff to buy it but no one seems to want them. Where can i get it cheap?--Dont say free online sites, they are not as good.
Thanks!
I'm homeschooled online. I'm going to do the summer school program so I can get ahead and learn another language. I'm thinking Mandarin would be better for the long term, since China is overthrowing the United States economically and militarily. But I live in southern california, and there are alot of mexicans (unfortunately) here.
i think hes hispanic but i never heard him speak spanish, but he does say the n word alot, whats the deal?
I am a nurse and I seem to be dealing with alot of spanish speaking pts lately.....I need somewhere to learn the language but dont have time to take a class right now. Can anyone recommend a website or book? Thanks!
I am a citizen. Lived here all my life. I should be able to work where ever I please. If I got the skills and qualify for the position. The job should be mine or any other citizen. If alot of the clients are hispanic. They should learn english. They wanted to come here because this is suppose to be the land of the free and they want to make a better life for themselfs. Learn the language. Why do I have to go out my way to learn their language. If I go to their country, Wouldn't I have to learn their language?
It pisses me off when someone that is fluent in spanish that comes from a Latin American country tells me that its good to learn spanish....WHY!?!?! I'm already over here, and YOU want to come over here! If I were to go live in Mexico or any other country, I would have to learn their language in order to survive! I think the same should hold true for ALL people that emigrate to the United States too!! If you want to live in the United States, you should learn how to speak the language!! Let me just say I am not racist, and there are alot of hispanics that do not speak spanish that would agree with me! What do you think?
I was thinking about learning spanish will it be easier for me to learn it since I'm already fluent in Portuguese (my family is from alot of afriacan countries and they speak portuguese in Angola/ Sao Tome/ Principe /the Cape Verde Islands/ Mozambique) and my boyfriend speaks spanish and portuguese and him said they are alot alike
How close are the two languges?
should I learn it?
will it be easier?

Im trying to find the anwser to some spanish work i have to complete. If you can try to not use a translator that would be good because most translator do word per word and get it wrong alot because some words in the sentence make other words different and more =P Thanks
I'm Irish-American, but I can speak Spanish. I speak it every day at work, sometimes I use it outside of work but not really. I don't speak it to people the first time I meet them, unless I find out they don't speak English. Alot of the time I hear people saying that women that are native Spanish speakers love Americans that speak Spanish, but I never know which language to use when I meet someone because I don't know if they'll be offended.
