yeah, interact with as many native speakers as you can…but before you make a fool outa yourself (if you don’t know any spanish at all)…you can learn some basic spanish at http://espanglishchat.com/ …i go there sometimes when i feel like brushing up on my spanish… a lot of people there are bilingual and they’ll be more than happy to help you
Sure! How can I help you? Or should I say Como te puedo ayudar?
take a spanish class!~
you can take classes. usually they can be about a 6 week course which are in the evening, usually. From my experience, it would run appx. $300
Go to a community college and enroll in a spanish 1 class. Or, buy some language tapes. You can find them on amazon.com and bookstores like Borders. You can even find used ones on ebay.com
Buena suerte! The problem is, much spanish that is taught in schools (and universities) is not ‘real’ spanish, it’s sort of like classical spanish. Plus, Spanish from spain is different than Mexican spanish, the same as english from england sounds different than US or Australian english. It can be tough to get used to the difference.
yeah definately take a spanish class.
You can always start slow, I’m sure a couple of years is plenty of time to learn the basics. I can not tell you to enroll in a class since it’s really hard to make the time to attend school while managing a job, family and a social life, let out alone making the time to attend a Spanish class.
I recommend buying some books on very basic Spanish, maybe some videos or CDs to help you with the pronunciation. Start watching some Spanish channels; some people find it a lot easier to understand the language when they watch soup operas, newscast, etc. Also, chatting with people that you know speak Spanish help a lot, you will find out that not everyone speaks Spanish the same way, that will come in very handy since in Spain (I’m only assuming since you mentioned the village is Spanish) the language is spoken differently.
Another way you can put your Spanish into practice is by logging in to Yahoo! Respuestas, it’s the same as Yahoo! Answers but in Spanish. There is a language section just like in English and you can post your questions or comments; people are not always right but they are very helpful!
I’m pretty sure that if you invest some time and not a lot of money you will be speaking Spanish in no time! As you progress through out the years you will be using your Spanish more often and even if you don’t become very fluent I’m sure once you move in to your new place and live there a few years or maybe months it will become easier and easier. Spanish is not very difficult to learn so you have a head start. Good luck!
Suerte.
the college courses will get too in depth into grammer, sentence struture, etc. you need to learn a conversational Spanish first. Check for a chapter of the Instituto Cervantes where you live. There you will learn the Spanish of Spain (as opposed to Latin American Spanish) I know there are chapters in NYC and Chicago.
