If I know Italian already, would it be easy to learn Spanish?
Teachers at my school want me to go to Spanish class :S
I think it might be good, having something more on my report card.
Would I need lots of time to catch up and stuff?

it´s alike but not the same, grammar structure is different, basic stuff are the same but then you see the differences, though the pronunciation is really easy for an Italian speaker.
As Spanish is so close to Italian, it won’t be difficult. You’ll see.
I think it would be really easy for you because I can understand Spanish and when I hear Italian I can get the gist of what’s going on, and it’s even easier when reading it. So I think it would be the same for you.
I know Italian, and though I’ve never studied Spanish, when I read it I understand everything. Italian and Spanish are very similar, it will be easy for you to learn this language.
Definitely would be. Italian and Spanish are so much alike. Besides, when you know more two one languages, you can learn a third and a fourth more easily because you can compare the languages and it is easier to conjugate verbs and things like that. It would definitely be a whole lot easier.
I’m taking French and I’m fluent in Spanish and English, and French is soo much like spanish, so it’s pretty easy for me. (:
not really…spanish is closer to french
i’m italan. For italian speakers it is very easy to understand spanish even without studying it, anyway it is a different language with different grammar!
Not really, I speak Spanish and I’ve been trying to learn Italian. There are many similarities but there’s also many differences. Spanish is actually closer to Portuguese and Catalan, heck, I have friends from Brazil and I can understand everything they say in Portuguese and they can understand Spanish too. It’s not that way with Italian though. You’ll be able to understand some things but be totally lost in an instant. I recommend you to befriend an Spanish speaking person, talk to him/her as much as you can in Spanish, and don’t buy Rosetta Stone, it’s way too overpriced. Instead, why don’t you try LiveMocha? It’s free.
Spanish is my second language and Italian is my third. Both languages are very similar and you should be able to pick up Spanish pretty easily.
Certo, se conosci bene l’italiano, dovresti saper già leggere qualcosa in spagnolo… per lo scritto e il parlato, sarà più difficile.
No, it won’t be difficult at all, particularly if you studied Spanish grammar at some point. I have a friend who speaks Italian—as long as I know the subject of the conversation, we get by just fine with him speaking Italian and I speaking Spanish to each other.
In looking at Italian grammar, there appear to be a few differences in when the subjunctive mood is needed—I’d watch for that. But since both languages evolved out of Latin, it should be pretty smooth sailing. Good luck!
All my experience says it will be easy to understand and read Spanish but very difficult to speak it.
I have experience of it the other way round – I speak Spanish fluently but now live in Italy. I can understand Italian well because many of the words are very similar to Spanish. But speaking it is another matter.
The words may be similar, but they’re not the same and because they are so similar, remembering whether a word is Italian or Spanish is incredibly difficult.
If you just want to have it on your report card that’s fine, but in my view it’s best to immerse yourself in one or the other and not try to do both.
