I haven’t personally used but I’ve read it only teaches how to get by. They’ve also said it’s not worth your money .

Yes.
I hated it.
I really did.
I’m not sure if it even helped me.
I used it in my Spanish 2 class.
They ask you the same question over and over and over.
They have about 5 different questions in each unit and repeat them for like 5-10 min.
I used it only when my teacher made me. I would pretend to do it sometimes. I didn’t get a lot of it done because it was way to hard to focus on. No it didn’t work for me.

Tried to learn Italian. It show a lot of pictures of horses and clowns , and you’re supposed to figure out what they’re saying. It was a total waste of a LOT of money. I completed the entire level one. There were no examples of anything useful.

Immersion is the time honored way of learnin a new language. If you can’t travel, try to find a community that will allow you to socialize with them. You’ll learn the most useful parts of communication, and get the feedback so needed yet lacking in one-sided conversations with machines.

PS Try Pimsluers (sp?) CD- they are thought to be the best for learning conversational phrases that are useful for business and travel.

I’ve used Rosetta and Pimsleur to get started with a language I’ve never tried before. Sure there are plenty getting started programs out there, but I have not had the luxury of getting more out of a language I am getting started with than Byki. Byki gives you a number of words and phrases to get started, and then some. The retention is incredible, I find myself remembering certain words and phrases after no exposure to the language in a year. It’s impressive that a language product like that can do this to you…

I used Rosetta Stone Spanish. I’ve had it for about two years, so been using it that whole time. I bought it along with a good grammar book, but that was all I needed. I finished everything – yes it worked AMAZINGLY for me, along with the grammar book.

People tend to say that for some it works for others it doesn’t (just like anything else, some things will work and others wont, like losing weight in example).

Safe to say, Rosetta Stone *IS* worth the investment because it DOES work.

Another program I strongly recommend is Rocket Languages.

Rocket Spanish is great because it’s just a measly $99. And is surprisingly a good program.

Money Tip: If you do decide to go with Rosetta Stone, get it from Amazon, it’s 10% off ($50).

I’ve tried Rosetta Stone and it’s great – for an hour.
Then it quickly gets VERY monotonous!!!
Stay away from Rosetta Stone, they rip you off! A much better deal is TELL ME MORE. They give you 2,000 hours of language learning vs. only a couple hundred for Rosetta Stone.

Plus they cover grammatical and cultural components that Rosetta doesn’t even touch.

TELL ME MORE is the best way to learn a language. (I sound like a commercial, don’t I?) : ) Only because they are so much better than Rosetta. Need to get the word out!
