I am already almost fluent in French, but I have absolutely no knowledge of Spanish. I'm an 18-year-old female. I'm planning on taking beginner Spanish courses in university, and I'm going to Spain next summer. What else can I do? Language CDs don't really work for me (I tried learning Romanian with them, and ended up not retaining anything).
I live in Canada.

I have Hispanic friends and stuff but anytime I try to speak in Spanish they laugh and tell me to shutup lol (My Spanish accent is bad, I am much better at reading and writing than listening and speaking). Is the only way to learn a language is to immerse yourself in a place where they only speak the language you learn?

I'm fluent in Spanish thanks to my parents and since it's my first language.
