I'm an American who only knows English. Seeing as American seems to be losing it's standing in the world I was thinking it would be a good time to start learning a new language. China seems to be the likely new economic super power but it seems that there will be more Spanish speaking people in America.

I'm a non-native. I have a pretty advanced level and understanding of grammar, but I make lots of careless mistakes. I don't talk as fast as some people, but I can communicate well, really love the language and I would love to show others how to speak it. I have this fear about a student speaking better than I can. Would I make a good teacher?

I have the 'Madrigal's magic key to Spanish', very tempting to study on my own. Spanish teachers who know the book, please let me know if it is good to study off this book (I have no knowledge in Spanish and English is my 2nd language) compared to should I wait to take a Spanish class in my high school this fall?

I'm still trying to pronounce 'aqui', lol.

I'm a native English speaker who is in the middle of learning Spanish, I would say that I'm in the higher intermediate levels right now but I want to get into Portuguese in a couple of years. How hard is the jump from Spanish to Brazilian Portuguese. From what I've seen the writing is similar but the spoken language sounds different.

Anybody gone from Spanish to Portuguese?

What situation(s) are each verb used for?

It seems to me odd that we allow 12 or 20 million people here against the law, millions more within the law, and none of them can be required to learn English. But that a serious presidential candidate would then suggest we all learn their language instead. Does that seem right; should we all be required to learn Spanish?

The teacher said that they should be in preterite form, are the correct?

Hey! I already speak French fluently and have some experience in learning Spanish, but I'm looking for a way to really learn it, so that I can go to South America and live there for a while. I know that the best way to learn would be to just go there, but the jobs I will be applying for require some level of fluency, so I need to be prepared beforehand. Any ideas? Some people have suggested watching movies and learning songs by heart. Has this worked for anyone?

I want to learn to speak spanish by the end of next month

If someone could refer me to a legitimate, reputable language school or course given in locations where Spanish is the main language, it would be much appreciate. I would also like to know, from those who have taken such courses, which location they recommend (ex. Spain, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, etc.).

Thank you!
Cupcake - thank you for your answer. However, when I try the website, all I see are characters in another language and no information on Spanish courses.

I am in 10th grade in new york. I took french and now regret it because I have learned to love the spanish language. I work at a restaurant with many spanish and peruvian people. They speak spanish all the time and I feel left out and curious. I love the sound of spanish and I know a little bit. I don't know where to start. I would love to learn the language and be fluent. I would study hard, I'm not looking for a quick fix. How do I find resources outside of school to learn spanish?
